Lighthouse Spiral Stairway |

A Small Section of the Fresnel Lens |
Yes, we had a busy second day as well. Got all my stuff unpacked and
put away. Cleaned a little more in the bathroom - a wonderful view from there.
A nice big window sill which was nice and shiny after I wiped it down. In the
early evening I volunteered to sweep out the tower from top to bottom - which
was quite a job since it hadn’t been done since October. Found a small dead
bird at the base of the steps - it wasn’t there yesterday. So it was nice to be
inside the huge lens and carefully sweep her out with a little hand brush so i
wouldn’t smack any of the glass prisms with a long handled broom that I later
used below the light on the floors and steps. This lighthouse has only 46 steps
and they are iron see thru so I’d brush them all and collect the dirt at the
bottom. While I was up there when it started to rain and it was so neat to be
there with the light and see and hear the rain start pounding on the lantern
room glass - and the views! Fred fixed the water pipes that were leaking badly
in the keepers house - we had no water all day till he fixed them. The water
has a rusty cast to it when it comes out of the faucet. We don’t drink it but
can wash with it. The hot shower at the end of the day felt great. So Fred is
quite the hero with the piping. He will try to put in a new kitchen faucet if
he can. We have raised the flag the past two mornings - just glorious on top of
the island! Sacatar is getting used to her new home and there is only two steps
out the kitchen door which she can manage better with arthritis. We walked down
to the fog horn building and around it and back up to the lighthouse for a nice
morning hike. Last night we had grilled salmon and Micheal made a luscious
tomato pie. He also made blueberry muffins yesterday from scratch with fresh
blueberries - yum! We will miss him and Cyndy when they leave us Saturday. They
usually have 20 people come out to open up the station but with the one day
delay we only had the 6 of us and a lot of supplies will be coming tomorrow
when we go into town to get more stuff.
Looking forward to setting up the museum and gift shop. Another busy
day ahead of us today!
