Hinkley - he weighs 165 lbs! |
We all got up early on this beautiful morning
for Fred and I to catch the ferry at 7 am. We
had lists of stuff to get for the lighthouse and for Cyndy and ourselves. The
boat showed up with Ken, the president of the board and Ethan (ferry driver)
and his wife Lindsay and their dog Pepper. It was a pleasant ride over in the
sunshine and back to Cyndy’s house to start laundry get the rest of our stuff –
my art supplies and met her beautiful daughter Carney and said hi and gave hugs
to Hinkley again. Filled two water jugs with water and retrieved a floor lamp
from Cyndy’s garage to put in the dining room at the lighthouse. We went into
town and Went to the FOSILS office and met Kathryn
and chatted with her and looked over some of
the gift store stuff. Got groceries and hit Ace hardware. Had a pleasant lunch
at Maxwell’s and continued down the street where we met Mary and Greg at
Reny’s. What a nice surprise and we had a nice chat. Got a few more things at
various places before going back to Cyndy’s to retrieve the laundry and get
some cold things from the fridge. Another hug to Hinkley and back to the pier
to catch the ferry. Ethan showed up about 2:45 and we loaded the stuff on the
boat and away we went in the sunshine back to the island. Another pleasant ride
and were greeted by Ken, Cyndy and Micheal. They helped us unload our two loads
of stuff and back home we were.

Cobblestone Beach - Stones may have been ballast from
Ships in the 1700's heading back to Europe |
We had a happy hour and then Fred and I went to explore the
trail down to Cobblestone Beach. There were a few colorful buoys about and we
poked around the very rocky beach and rock areas. The sun was out and in a
matter of seconds the fog poured in and it was cooler and damper. We did hear
the foghorn sound off two times and then stopped, it is somewhat broken and
doesn’t work right. It was still neat to hear the great horn speak, even for
just two blasts. We collected the buoys up and one dead balloon and headed back
to the cove where we hung the buoys up and then continued back to the
lighthouse. Cyndy and Micheal had cooked dinner of chicken chili and garlic
bread. Another delicious meal completed. The fog was pretty thick and we all
went up into the lighthouse tower to see the beautiful light and the “umbrella”
effect it gave in the fog with the dark spokes. There were some little yellow
birds (goldfinches) that were clamoring against the glass of the lantern room
outside. They acted like they wanted inside. We went out on the catwalk and
watched them – trying to scoop them gently away but they seemed oblivious to us
and mesmerized by the light.
Too tired to play scrabble – we all went to bed early by ten
to ten thirty.
