Seguin Island Lighthouse with moon over the tower |
This morning was
less blustery than yesterday and we hoped Karl and Lori were coming out. Got a
text from Ethan saying he didn’t know if he was coming out. Then I got a text
from Karl that said they were not coming out – we were so disappointed. We
heard the small craft warning was to be canceled at 10 am and texted Ethan
about it and asked if he could try to bring them out. He said he would try. So
after an anxious morning and waiting for the ferry to arrive we waited at the
cove – welcoming a couple off a nice sailboat. Then we saw the Guppy coming
round the bend! Yea, they’re going to make it!!! They got off quickly from the boat with just
a few things. I handed Ethan a baggie with 2 fresh baked blueberry muffins and
thanked him profusely. After hugs of welcome we escorted them to the house and
relaxed on the porch after the climb. We had a mini breakfast of the muffins
and walked around admiring our island views. We let them get settled and took
care of Sacatar for her morning walk. We entertained our sailboat guests and
gave them a nice tour. They hiked the north trail and came back to the museum
and gift store for a few things. They were very nice and appreciative of the
island and lighthouse and even took our pictures as the keepers.
We defrosted and heated
up the 4 delicious enchiladas that Kim had left us for lunch. I was defrosting
the scallops for dinner slowly in the fridge and countertop. We took them up to
the tower and let them see Beauty and how gorgeous she is. They enjoyed the
walk around outside on the catwalk in spite of the stiff winds. After the tower
tour we went down to the cove to look for beach glass and then hiked the Cove
trail to the rock cliffs where we hiked back around to the Cobblestone beach.
We ended up back at the tram and cove and went down to relax at the boat dock.
Karl and I then went back up to the house to get some cheese, crackers, hummus
and wine for a nice sunny relaxing happy hour. It was nice to enjoy the warm
cove and just chat and catch up. Later when the sun went over the trees and it
got cool we packed up and went back up to the house. Sac was still snoozing
outside in the grass and content. I weeded around the chive garden with Sac
watching and relaxing. Lori came out and we chatted as I trimmed some grass
edges down the walkways. Fred finished up sanding the four drywall joints in
the guest quarters hallway and then cleaned up his mess. When finished he was covered with white
plaster powder and took a shower. Got
Sac inside for her dinner and we started our dinner of salad that Lori made and
I poached the scallops in Riesling, water, butter, garlic and chives from the
garden. Everything turned out great and complemented each other. We were all
pretty tired from our long awaited reunion and everyone turned in early except
for me with my night owl ways. I tended to Sac once more and read some emails and
knitting before retiring to bed finally. A good sleep knowing Karl and Lori
were finally safely here sharing our windswept little Maine isle.
