Work crew on Left Boat, 5 Small Point Summer Camp Boats on left
Note swimmer going to get one of the boats |
Finally after 3 days of dreary weather we were welcomed with
sunshine and calm seas. We got notification that Sue would be coming out with
others to do some work at around 10 am. They arrived bringing new goodies to
display and sell in the gift store. They all got to work on various projects
and the visitors started to trickle in with private boaters and Ethan’s ferry. I
had just finished a quick breakfast of bagel, milk, yogurt and blueberries when
I looked out the window to see many blue shirted kids starting to invade!
These were the kids we were warned about from
Small Point Summer Camp. There were 36 of them with a good number of counselors
to police them. Sacatar was relaxing outside in her favorite spot near the
chive garden and I noticed 3 kids that were sitting with her and gently petting
her. One small boy had an arm around her and looked up at us with a

face and said that his parents were divorced and mentioned some other problems.
I told him I was sorry and left him to enjoy the company of my little blonde
girl. We later learned that he never talked much and was quite a loner, so it
was touching to see him get some therapy from our beloved Sac. The kids loved
being with her. We had quite the afternoon giving tours to all the kids and ferryboat
visitors and private boaters! We made some sales to them and one camp counselor
bought a little owl puppet for one little girl who was still feeling the
affects of seasickness. The poor little child was still terrified of leaving
the island and having to go on the boat again. I gave the counselor some mints
and mint gum to help her little charge get back with less anxiety.
We also had a couple show up that were

which was unexpected for us but we were ready with their
quarters. They were a very nice couple and very understanding of our busy schedule.
We later could give them undivided attention and gave them a nice tour and
private shopping in the gift store. Ethan came out later also with another
small group – a nice family who enjoyed the tour and grounds. After our busy
day we got our bins and cooler together for the next day when we would finally
get off for our day of shore leave.
Fred
and I did a complete top to bottom inventory of the gift shop and Fred put the
data in an Excel spreadsheet.
We had our
late dinner of Hawaiian chicken on leftover risotto from Kim before finally
getting to sleep. Fortunately our pickup time was to be at 10:15 am – not too
early for a nice change.
