Day 5, 22 May

Lighthouse in the fog
Today we could sleep in a little with the foggy weather and I baked popovers for everyone for brunch. I dragged the popover pan from home. Fred fixed the toilet at the Donkey House in the morning and made a metal diverter slide for a leak in the basement. After doing some phone calls it was low tide and we all went down to the cove to see the beach and look for beach glass. Cyndy picked up 12 mussels for a snack later. While down there I started trimming on the Cove and Cobblestone trails while Fred was weed whacking. At the end of Cove Trail I stopped and retrieved a black and red buoy that I had to saw off the rope from. I also found some nice beach glass – all green except one blue piece. Michael was cutting the grass and Cyndy also doing outside chores. We had a break for lunch around 3 PM to some leftovers and scrumptious choco chip and oatmeal raisin cookies baked by Micheal and Cyndy. We all went out after lunch for more yard and trail work. This time I followed Fred down the South Trail with trimming. At the end of South Trail were the neat rock cliffs with all kinds of crazy beautiful twisted patterns in the rocks. Took two photos of a tiny clump of beautiful purple and pink flowers that looked like little orchids. It was fun to explore the southern most tip of the island a little bit. Fred then weed wacked the trail from the lighthouse and under the tram. The others were still doing yard/trail work. We finally had happy hour with the delicious fresh mussels and garlic bread and some Moscato
and then right into dinner of spicy sausage and salad with cookies for desert. This evening there was an interesting fog area blowing past the lighthouse. The “umbrella “was present with the dark spokes but as the fog passed by it was white imposed on the dark areas of sky that you could see stars through.  It was eerily beautiful with the light sparkling in the
Flower near southern end of island
sparkling in the midst of it all, another magic aspect of being at a remote lighthouse. There were no goldfinches present tonight like last night.

We had a game of Scrabble later in the evening to wrap up the night. Looking forward to setting up the gift store, toilet training and cleaning the light tomorrow and especially LOBSTERS for dinner and a visit from Ethan and Lindsey who will stay overnight.
