Cyn's Preliminary Sketch of the Lighthouse at Night |
A beautiful, cool morning greeted us today with the promise
of a gorgeous day. Our overnight guests had a nice breakfast on the porch in
the morning sun. I stopped to say hello and chat a bit. They decided to have
pieces of their scrumptious blackberry pie to finish off their morning feast
and I was the lucky recipient of the last remaining piece!
I heated mine up and put a fat blob of Muddy
Boots ice cream to complete the decadent morning meal. I also gave our visitors
their very own fat blobs to garnish their pie slices, it was the gentleman’s
birthday after all. Fred was down at the cove and came back in time to receive
the last bit from my plate. He looked a bit sad that he missed the debauchery
but I assured him there was the other piece from last night still in the fridge
that we didn’t get to. We shared a single piece last night with the ice cream.
I managed to finally finish the Icelandic horse book while sitting in the
surprisingly hot morning sun for just a few minutes of relaxation before the
visitor hoards ascended. While I hosted some early private boaters for a tour,
Fred swept the guest quarters, made the bed and put back the freshly washed
dishes for new arrivals that were to come on the 11:30 am ferry. He went down
to the cove to prepare for the ferry arrival with guests. I squeezed in a
shower and grabbed two cranberry/cherry/orange muffins for Ethan and Brooke and
headed down to the cove for a rare welcoming from me. We greeted the first
dinghy load from the ferry and I went ahead up to the kiosk to escort the first
set up to the lighthouse and start tours. I got 2 tours in and stopped for a
few minutes to greet our overnight guests and help with the tram in getting
their stuff up to the house. After doing that I went back to tours and the gift
shop. Fred came up from the cove and was able to take over tours and gift shop
also. We had our usual two-hour frenzy of visitors with a few private boaters
thrown in for more work. After the ferry left there was a slight lull and we
were able to have lunch of my leftover chicken casserole. No sooner did I
finish my lunch and Fred started his were there visitors to host again. Our
lovely overnight guests this time were a very nice family of mom and dad and
their two children, a boy and a girl. They brought the bananas and cupcake
liners as I requested and also gifts of dog chews for Sac and a nice bottle of
wine in the cutest cloth bag with an embroidered lobster and neat little rope
handles.

Simple Sunset |
Fred started to mow the upper lawns and I opted to go down
to the cove to look for beach glass and take a hike around the peninsula from
Cobblestone Beach. It takes him about 3 hrs to mow the grounds around the
lighthouse.
I got halfway down the main
trail when I saw some new visitors and had to turn around and come back up to
give them a tour. There was another group that appeared after them. So much for
a relaxing afternoon to myself. I also gave a nice private tour to our
overnight family. After their tour I hosted another tour with visitors who
appeared. At about 5:45 pm I could finally make my way down to the cove to look
for sea glass during the low tide. I found a few choice large interesting
pieces and even a nice rare cobalt blue chunk. 3 of the visitors came back down
to the beach to return to their pretty navy blue and white sailboat moored in
the cove. While the one man got their dinghy ready the other two waited and I
chatted with them. The lady asked if she could smoke on the beach and I said
yes but could she take her cigarette butt with her when she left.
Right before she left in the dinghy she gave
me some beach glass from Monhegan Island (we can see it about 8 miles in the
distance to the east) and a donation for the lighthouse.
How kind of her to do that.
It made up for my delayed afternoon and I was
glad I gave them a nice tour. At 6:30 pm I finally hiked down the Cobblestone
trail with my pruning and got to the beach. I went to the right on the rock
cliffs for a little inspection of the next cove area and circled back around to
the trail end. I didn’t feel like hiking the peninsula now that it was late and
not sunny. Near 7 pm I climbed back up to the house after checking the two
donation boxes at the kiosk and outhouse. Got back in time to see the quiet
simple sunset. The family had grilled steaks outside and were enjoying their
dinner on one of the big rock formations popping out of the lawn. I brought Sac
out to see the sunset with us at the sunset bench. After sunset I fed Sac her
cooked chicken and kibble dinner and had enough light to dig out two fresh
carrots from my garden and gather some lettuce and chives for salads. Since the

still hot Fred cooked up two hamburgers for us and I nuked two
potatoes and pan fried them with onions and garlic. We had two grilled corn on
the cob with dinner that were donated by the family. We managed to have our
early dinner at 8pm! I made up the salad after dinner and stashed them in the
fridge. I was quite tired after dinner and a delicious glass of blueberry wine
from our friend Bertha that had sent us the bottle for a thank you.
I took a little nap on the couch and awoke at midnight to
fetch my salad for a late snack. Fred had already eaten his. So in my usual
late night fashion I stayed up to write this blog before getting tired again
and off to dreamland. Dreams of yummy blueberry wine and closing days on a
beautiful day on a delightful island with a stunning lighthouse, watched all over by a sparkling glass queen of the
night.
