A Sailboat Passing by the Northern Tip of the Island |
A fine morning of sunshine and coolness, as we awoke from a
bit of sleeping in. Jane and Tony made hearty oatmeal for breakfast and I made
a little fruit salad. We put in all kinds of good crap to sweeten up the
oatmeal – brown sugar, white chocolate chips, oatmeal and raisins. Today the
ferry did not come so it was more relaxed though private boaters started
showing up early enough. Fred and I gave tours and ran the gift shop and Jane
and Tony cooked up lunch for us of creamy rice soup and Red Lobster cheese
biscuits. We managed to eat lunch with no interruption until the very end when
more visitors showed up. Our overnight guests showed up around 4:30 pm and we
greeted them as they came up the walkway. We had hoped to meet them in the cove
when they got off the ferry but we had visitors on top. This family of 5 had
been here last year and knew the ropes and was happy to settle in and then go
hiking. Later when all had gone the 4 of us went down to the cove to relax and
get our lobsters that Jackson had left us – or so we thought. Fred and Jane
rowed out in the dinghy and there was no keeper box to be seen at it’s
mooring.
Fred proceeded to row over to a
sailboat and inquired about our box and they knew nothing. He then rowed over
to two boats that were moored together. Here is where he found our box between
the two boats and enquired to the boat occupants as to where our lobsters were.
The one boat owner said he was lobstering himself and went and got our box to
put his in and that it was empty when he got it. He said he saw Jackson swing
by and look but didn’t leave anything. Fred explained that it was our lobster
box that they took and that we were expecting 4 lobsters to be in there that
Jackson was to have left. They acted very questionably and eventually gave Fred
4 lobsters. They said they would leave the box when they would leave. Their
story didn’t seem to fit and we all had our doubts, but at least we had 4
lobsters for dinner.

Current Line from the Tidal Interaction with the Kennebec River Flow |
I got seaweed for the tasty crustaceans and we parked the
bucket with them in it in a safe cool place. We looked for a bit of sea glass
at the beach and then hiked the cove trail to relax and look for sea glass on
the beach at the point. We took our treasures and then hiked back to the house
with our delicious cargo. We took care of Sacatar and relaxed a bit with cheese
and crackers and drinks for a nice happy hour. I managed to knit a bit and work
on the blog – seems like all I ever do is work on that blog constantly. I was
two days late and kept trying to catch up – it’s hard with guests to entertain
and visitors to host at all hours. It was time to cook the lobsters and start a
salad. At around 9 pm we sat down to our classic Maine feast of steamed
lobster, corn on the cob, salad and potato chips. We relaxed in the living room
with some cookies for desert and enjoyed each others company with conversation.
A bit of news on the TV/computer put everyone to sleep and they all went to bed
while I stayed up and wrote one more blog before I was falling asleep – still
one more to go. Went to bed and quickly fell asleep with a contentment of
knowing we had a very nice day of companionship and togetherness with our dear
relatives that we so rarely get to see. This tiny unique island has brought a
small number of our dear distant friends and relatives much closer to us with its
quiet and serene powers.
