Day 81, 6 Aug

16 Visitors

We got off the island this fine morning and went on the big boat – the Leeward since Ethan arrived with a team from MITA (Maine Island Trails Association) along with our local work crew. These 10 people came to help clear brush under the tram, a big and necessary job to help the tram supports survive better. They arrived around 7:20 am and we were ready to go aboard since Fred paddled out in the dinghy with me and our empty bins and laundry.
Another Great Sunset at Seguin Island
We made the switch with our stuff loaded onto the Leeward and people and their stuff transferred to the dinghy to go ashore. They also used Ethan’s dinghy also to speed things up. We had a nice ride, the three of us back to Popham where we unloaded our stuff and Fred for a change went and got the car while I carried our stuff off the dock to the shore to be ready to load up the car. First I quickly switched from shorts to my skort and was ready to face the day. I saw Jackson and waved hello. He was getting ready to go lobstering on his boat. Fred arrived back with the car and off we went to the recycle bin at the school and to Cyndy’s to get water and give Hinkley hugs and kisses. It is always so nice to see the big boy, usually with one of his toys stuffed in his mouth. His big brown, soulful eyes always so adorable looking up at us from that huge black furry head. We then headed for Bath and had a nice breakfast at the Starlight Café, a cute little local place downtown. Off to the bank to see Dee to give her the money and receipts from the gift shop sales and to get the key for the office since Catherine was on vacation. We went up to the office and got our mail and grabbed a few more things for the gift shop. We got a package from our friend Bertha who stayed overnight a few weeks ago. She was so kind to send a local bottle of wine to thank us for hosting her on her visit. The box she used was perfect to send birthday gifts to my friend Kim, which was sitting in the car. So I transferred her gifts to the box and got it ready to send.
Seagull on "Sunset" Bench
Fred dropped me off at the laundry mat and he went on to do some errands. He got back n time to help me fold the clothes from the dryer. He wasn’t able to get the meds for Sac yet and we weren’t real hungry for lunch yet so we did a few more errands. Eventually we got some yummy ice cream at a local drive in place in Brunswick and there we got the call to pick up the meds. It was close by and got them after the ice cream. We then went to Shaw’s to get groceries and this is when it started to rain. We had noticed the clouds building all day and while in the store it really let loose with thunder and poring rain. When we got out of the store it had died down a bit and we quickly loaded the bins and cooler up with our purchases. Off we went back to the dock but first stopped at Spinney’s to order a BLT with their delicious onion rings for a late lunch. It was raining harder as we drove to Spinney’s but I could see some blue sky to the northwest. We got our BLT and drove over to the dock and quickly snarfed down the late lunch as we watched Ethan go get the Leeward out in the bay. We unloaded the car and I drove it back to the church as Fred loaded the stuff onto the dock. Back I walked avoiding a huge road puddle to the dock and the rain was essentially stopped now. I climbed down to the Leeward and off the 3 of us went back to Seguin. I could see our beautiful Beauty shining in the distance and it was so nice to see her in all her glory atop her little island in the sea. We got back and did our dinghy transfer again and I went in Ethan’s dinghy with another guy while Fred went in the other dinghy with all our stuff. Everyone transferred and we were left on the shore with our stuff to bring to the tram. There were 3 sailboats moored in the cove but all were aboard their boats.
Another Shot as the Sun Appeared Below the Recent Storm Clouds
I hiked up to the house with my bag while Fred loaded up the tram. We brought the tram cart up to the mid walkway instead of the end since that was the way we were to do it now since the accident last week. We talked on the radios before starting the tram and I was in place to give the hand signals to help Fred stop the cart at the proper place. All worked well and we unloaded everything and brought all to the house where we unpacked.
We were tired from our busy day and relaxed a bit in the living room. A second set of storms passed through and it was exciting with the thunder and lightening and rain.  Fred went up in the lighthouse to read his iPad with the storm around him.
We had the most gorgeous, long, changing sunset tonight after the squalls went through. The clouds were dramatically lit up like a God scene with rays of light shooting from a triangular hole in the clouds and then it died down only to have the sun go totally below the cloud layer and be a big red ball. The clouds continued to change and there were color and dark bands reflected on the water. Even when the sun was completely down the clouds and water were exquisite watercolor masterpieces. This is what I will always remember about Seguin.

Fred made a salad for dinner while I caught up on knitting – I finally finished the initial part of the skirt after 63 rows and was ready for the decreasing. After the salad and watching the news we were quite tired and off to bed we went with dreams of that spectacular sunset emblazing a myriad of bold and delicate colors upon sky and sea.
