Day 94, 19 Aug

48 Visitors

Northern Tip of the Island
Another beautiful morning dawned early and I was up to watch sunrise since I couldn’t sleep and got up to actually see the sun pop up over the horizon. It gets light way ahead of that and it was so very peaceful with the birds starting to chirp and a seagull sat on the birdhouse out front and did his morning cry. The watercolor, pastel sky reflected perfectly on the very calm sea to capture the tranquility that was not going to last long. Just as there is a serene magic hour prior to sunset there is another one prior to sunrise. I laid down on the hard wood bench on the front porch wrapped in blankets to ward off the chill and managed to get a few winks in before heading to bed for a few more winks. Ken arrived about 8:30 am with his granddaughter Emma and the brick guys. We had another nice breakfast of oatmeal with all the trimmings with Jane and Tony. Only one set of private people showed up right before the ferry visitors, which made for a more relaxed morning. Fred got the sandwiches and cupcakes that I had made up the day before to Ethan and Brooke. We got with Emma who is doing a Girl Scout project which consisted of a set of activities to be performed by kids on the island that pertained to things on the island. We did our tours and gift shop all afternoon as usual. There was one large family that had a number of young kids. Their grandpa treated everyone to a T- shirt and he bought a good number of other things to make a very large sale, which is great support for the lighthouse. Jane heated up some lobster bisque soup and put in some of our yummy leftover lobster from the night before. I made Fred a sandwich since he was busy with departing people in the cove. After lunch I took Jane and Tony on the North trail and we had a nice hike along the entire trail with me snipping here and there with the shears. Fred mowed the lower areas while we were hiking. We all got back to relax a bit have some guacamole and chips with drinks. I went over to the tower to tune my violin for a little concert for Jane and Tony.  Every string needed tuning and the pegs were sticking due to the humidity here. It took a little while to get my Sweet tuned and I played for about an hour.  After the concert I prepared scallops and potatoes for dinner while Fred showed various pictures to Jane and Tony on the computer of our past trips. We later saw a neat shark video that Jane had went she went scuba diving with sharks in the Bahamas.

We eventually had our usual late dinner and the poached scallops came out perfect as well as the fried onion potatoes and salad. It was getting late and we all needed to get to bed for our early pick up for shore leave by Ethan. Jane and Tony were going with us and leaving the island to go home after their wonderful visit. I again stayed up late finishing and taking a shower at 2 am.  A sound sleep was had this evening until the alarm went off at 6 am.
