Day 22, 8 June

8 visitors

Another glorious warm sunny morning greeted us today. What a gorgeous weekend this is!
After a late breakfast of bacon, egg, cheese, English muffins and strawberries we got to doing our chores. Fred mowed the upper lawns with the riding and hand mowers. I started to hand clear tall grasses around the big rock mounds in the yard. I cleared the grasses away from existing wildflowers and looked for areas to plant some new flower seeds.
Very nice sail boat, 3 gentleman from Montreal

We had visitors show up early afternoon from their own boats. We had two gentlemen from Bath who were out here last weekend. We had a nice chat with them and since they are here a lot they didn’t go up in the lighthouse. Later we had a group of three who we gave a nice tour and later a group of 3 gentlemen from Montreal area who got a very nice tour also. It was nice to have long chats with them and give them long quality tours. They seemed to enjoy the tours very much and left us very nice donations. We thanked them very much. The Montreal group had a very pretty yellow racing sailboat that they have raced across the Atlantic. The one younger man had just graduated with an aerospace degree and he sang a bit on the beach and then while standing on the boat that was moored in the cove. In between the visitors I planted a few rock gardens and weeded a bit while Fred raked and started to cut the grass in the lower areas. He told me to come down to the cove at around 7 pm to see the pretty yellow boat and I did and hiked down to the end of the cove trail via the rocks along the cove starting at the sitting bench. Took some pictures in the setting low sun and then hiked down to the Cobblestone beach to have a look. Lots of the little purple/fuchsia flowers blooming on the low bushes on the edge of the rock cliffs.
Late in the Day at Seguin Island
I peeked into the little cove down there to see three adult ducks with a flock of chicks swimming about. Went across the rock cliffs and back down to the beach onto the cobblestones to take some dramatic sky pictures with seagulls flying through and the lighthouse silhouetted in the background. I’m glad I took the time from my gardening to run down to the sea and enjoy the views. Every day it is different with the lighting and weather – always a new way to see and enjoy something. Going up the rock cliffs from the cove I got some great art shots of the wonderful twisted rock patterns that are quite rough in this area but looked smooth and fantastic in the low, early, evening light. Each day we marvel and reflect on how fortunate we are to be here to experience all this. All the visitors have mentioned this – how wonderful it must be to live and stay here all summer to care for this special place. The most common question is – how did you get this position?
Fred mowing the lawn down by the cove
We have gone back to basic things like cooking and gardening and even the unusual (for us) of cutting grass, weeding and cleaning a treasure of a great lighthouse lens. Each Day the hours fly by and by evening we are exhausted from all the fresh air and living a simple life out here.

For dinner I made a salad and Fred cooked up a big salmon fillet that we enjoyed with a lemon sauce. In the later evening, back to my relaxing knitting on my dress, which is almost half done and Fred watched the basketball finals. Another wonderful day come to a close on our serene island home.

  1. It looks like Fred has been developing Herculean musculature in maintaining the site at tip top shape!

    - Have you tried your brother's [rope on a "peg"- "lawn mower" trick]? It is creative way to get the lawn done on flatland ask Dick for directions LOL
