Day 29, 15 June

25 visitors

Flower down the South Trail
A beautiful morning dawned for Father’s Day. Fred got started on weed whacking the Cobblestone trail and then South Trail. While eating breakfast with Sac at our little kitchen table, I looked out the window to see a cute little red haired girl – visitors!  So I ran out the door and greeted her and her parents not far behind. They said the ferry had arrived with a number of other people. I couldn’t get ahold of Fred since he was on the trail with no radio, which he wouldn’t have heard anyway. So I just started giving tours. Others began arriving and some wanted to wander around or relax while others were in the museum and I took some up the tower and outside of it for their tours. Eventually Fred showed up and helped to talk with the visitors. A man showed up with his two wet golden labs and some friends. Sac was out in the grass and the other dogs were fine with her. She is leery of other dogs because of her lameness but she was fine and even walked around a bit and then relaxed in the grass. So we had quite the gaggle of people milling about in the sunshine and it was fun to entertain them all. They all were appreciative of the tours and seeing the lighthouse. Some lived nearby and had passed the island a lot but finally came over for a look. I had one fun conversation with one gentleman about the Stanley cup final hockey game – he was rooting for the Kings also. I finally got to finish my breakfast and was going to trim the South trail when more visitors showed up. So I decided to do some weeding and planting in the chive garden against the kitchen and gave tours to people who showed up. Fred was busy

clearing growth under the tram where the growth can be detrimental to the wooden supports. He then mowed the lower areas but the mower throttle assembly broke and he couldn’t continue with that mower. So he loaded up the mower from the upper area on the tram and brought it down to finish the mowing. Later he returned it using the tram and me signaling.

At 4:30pm I was finally able to go down South trail and prune and also painted a few white arrows on the rock areas to show people where to hike on the trail. Evening was a salad with grilled sole and fresh made brownies for dessert. We watched the Spurs beat the Heat for the NBA title and off to bed.

  1. Looking in my wildflower book and think the white one may be Thimbleweed. They grow on our property too. The Yellow one looks like a Buttercup to me. You may have better luck identifying. Carol Foerch
