Day 35, 21 June

11 visitors

Rocky coast near southern end of island
The first day of summer! Dick weed whacked the North trail for us while Fred mowed the cove. We had 11 visitors that I entertained and gave nice tours. One father and son team from Portland had been here long ago but enjoyed my thorough tour and left a $17 donation after purchasing some things and donated the change to the lighthouse. Another elderly gentleman who enjoyed a tour with his family asked to see the guest quarters since he was interested in bringing his wife here for a stay. Fred gave him a tour of the quarters while I had more visitors to entertain. Dick and Fred went down to the cove to retrieve the 3 lobsters that Jackson left us and to see people off to their boats. While they were there I got a call over the radio from one of the boats asking if they could bring us the keeper box with the lobster. I told them that would be very nice and thanked them. So they got the box to Dick and Fred and they didn’t have to paddle out to the buoy to get it.  In the later afternoon while Fred and Dick relaxed In the house, I opted to take a hike down South trail for some exercise and went to the point where I went down the cliffs to the right and explored for a bit which was fun. Came back to the tram and continued down to the cove for a look and rest at the boathouse dock. Back up the main trail to the house to relax a bit with knitting and chatting with Fred and Dick. There was a very pretty sunset this evening and we watched it as it changed and became even more beautiful as the sun went under the clouds and lit them up after setting. You could see Mt Washington again in the distance. We finally decided to cook our lobsters at about 10pm and had them with corn on the cob and macaroni salad. We steamed the 3 lobsters for 18 minutes this time and they came out perfect – my were they ever delicious! I did cut my delicate little hands again trying to open the lobsters – must get some thin rubber gloves and try it that way.
Glowing Orange Lighthouse at sunset
We stayed up late chatting with each other since this was Dick’s last evening with us.

Fred stayed up even later working on our photos. Off to bed exhausted with dreams of pinchy, spikey lobsters dancing on my plate.
