Iris growing on the north trail bog
Our first Guest
The sunny slightly cooler day dawned on us after a good nights sleep. We had 3 kinds of pancakes that Dick cooked for us – bacon, banana and blueberry pancakes! They were good. Fred and Dick went down to the cove after breakfast and put the keeper box onto a buoy for Jackson to drop off some lobsters. I phoned in the order and washed dishes and tended to Sac. A little while later after a shower I joined the boys at the cove and we saw a cute little powerboat come into cove and moor. We poked around the beach and then hiked down the cove trail to see the boat again along the way. We managed to say hello by yelling from the shore and had a slight chat with the sole passenger. We continued to hike along the rock cliffs back to Cobblestone trail with Dick explaining all the different rock formations – he was a geology major in college. We had a nice sunny breezy afternoon to poke along on my favorite hike on the island. Got back to the house where we were hungry and I made potato cheese soup with cheese biscuits and fresh strawberries. After lunch I decided to fill two, medium sized pots with dirt and plant some more flower seeds. I took Sac out and walked her with the towel out to the bench near the original lighthouse site. She lead me without much pressure on the towel. I left her there and went back to do the pots.
Interesting topographic rock pattern

While potting she walked back on her own not falling down. She likes to be near people. I continued with potting and she settled down later to get up and do her business without falling – what a great site to see her functioning on her own. I later planted more flower seeds in the chive garden with Sac as my companion. It was nice to be outside with her enjoying the afternoon.  As I was finishing up Dick and Fred appeared and asked if I wanted to hike on the North trail with them. We put Sac back in the house on her bed and headed for the trail. Dick and Fred did a little clipping along the way and we had a nice hike. The nest in the trail at the loop was there with it’s two eggs and I noticed some tiny holes in them – the chicks were starting to peck through! I touched the egg and it was warm and heavy with chick!  Fred took a picture. We went to the right, through the bog, which had more gorgeous purple irises and more poison ivy. Up we went around and down to the vista point where we sat for a bit enjoying the view and birds including a pair of charming, little, chirpy, spotted sandpipers. We left going back up the way we came and peeked in the seagull nest in a bush that we saw going in and had snapped a few pictures of the babies. This time when we peeked we saw all 3 of them and two had their cute little faces looking at us with black beaks and little black beads for eyes within their spotted fluffiness.  They reeked of adorable! Back to the house we went to greet Sac and get her dinner. We relaxed, knit and read and had a late dinner of grilled salmon and salad. Dreams of fuzzy cuteness as we fell asleep.
